Hemaseel® Thrombin haemostatic agent

Haemacure's proprietary haemostatic agent is human thrombin, one of the two proteins of its fibrin sealant.  It is used as a topical hemostat to arrest bleeding during surgical procedures. Thrombin may be used alone and is often used in combination with passive hemostats such as gelatin.  It is also derived from Haemacure's patented extraction technology.

Commercial thrombin currently available in the United States is entirely bovine-derived.  No significant quantity of commercial thrombin is sold in any other country, whether bovine or human.  Haemacure believes that the introduction of a human thrombin product, such as its Hemaseel Thrombin, would provide significant clinical advantages as compared to the current bovine-derived product.

Haemacure plans on launching its haemostatic agent Hemaseel Thrombin on the market by the end of 2010 or the beginning of 2011.
